Machines to strengthen farmers Baataliba and Boven Suriname

The project 'Capacity Building Baataliba and Upper Suriname (Pokigron-Lespansi 2)' aims to strengthen the farmers of Baataliba and the Upper Suriname area.

On February 15, the signing of an MOU for the 'Capacity Building Baataliba and Boven Suriname' project took place. This agreement was concluded between Tropenbos Suriname and the Community Projects Bureau (BGP), a coöperative part of the Ministry of Finance and Planning.
The project manager of the Bureau for Community Projects, Jaswant Doekharan, and Community Liason Officer, Cher Akoi had a major contribution to the realization of this project.

On March 22, 2023, the machines intended for processing agricultural material were handed over at the Community House in Pokigron. The Sipaliwini District Commissioner was present during this formality. Also present were the Pokigron village authority and representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Planning.

To ensure proper use and management of the machines, an introduction training was provided by Intramar NV. Dr. Rudi van Kanten, Jaswant Doekaran, District Commissioner Frits Dinge and Captain Albert Jeroe from Pokigron gave speeches on the increasing progress of agricultural activities in the area.

The machines were handed over to the representatives from 14 villages between Pokigron and LesPansi. Signing a loan agreement was part of the donation.
